Arthur M. DeAscentis is a principal and manager of the Law Firm Bogle, DeAscentis & Coughlin, P. C., a firm he co-founded with Peter Bogle in 1989.

His practice covers a broad range of real estate, land use, development and preservation, mill development, affordable housing initiatives and financing for land owners, developers, institutional and personal investors. He has substantial transactional experience in commercial and residential real estate matters, and has represented institutions and individuals in a variety of land use matters. He also provides representation in the organization of and counseling to non-profit organizations and businesses.

Attorney DeAscentis is the former Chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of Fall River and was a member of the City’s Master Plan Committee and its Zoning Ordinance Subcommittee. He has also served on the management plan committee for the Southeastern Massachusetts BioReserve, a public-private partnership for the preservation and management of approximately 14,000 acres of undeveloped land in and around the Copicut and North Watuppa watershed areas, and the Freetown-Fall River State Forest.

Active in civic matters, Attorney DeAscentis is presently Chair of YMCA Southcoast, a Y organization with six facilities serving communities from the Cape Cod Canal to the Rhode Island border. A supporter of the arts, Attorney DeAscentis is a Director and past Chair of the Board of the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River. He was also a Director and Board Clerk of a local community savings bank, and has served on the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness. He was an SJC appointee to the Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee, and was a 15 year Director of the Board for Southeastern Massachusetts Legal Services (now South Coastal Counties Legal Services), serving as its Chair for two years.

A graduate of Syracuse University, receiving his AB in 1974, Arthur received his JD from the School of Law at Western New England University in 1979. He began his legal career as a legal services staff attorney providing representation to low income persons, with a concentration in public housing and institutional mental health issues. Attorney DeAscentis is a fellow of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, and a member of the Massachusetts Real Estate Bar Association, and the American, and Massachusetts Bar Associations. His firm is a sponsor member of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education Inc.

A committed New Englander and an outdoor enthusiast, Attorney DeAscentis is an avid bicyclist and enjoys both road and gravel riding.  Having grown up in Newport, RI, he continues to swim and paddleboard in ocean waters from May to November.  When north country snows set in, he exchanges his bikes and wetsuits for his cross country skis.
